Plain language, because a screen recorder does not need six pages of it.
Silk is a macOS application, free to download and free to use. Recording, editing, transcription and export are not sold and are not time limited. Downloading it does not transfer ownership of the software itself, only the right to use it.
The licence, at $69 once, covers hosted sharing: the right to upload your exports to my storage and publish them as a link, with 2 GB of storage per licence, kept for as long as Silk exists. It also covers three Macs.
Updates are included for 12 months from the date of purchase: every version published within that window is yours to install. After those 12 months, the version you hold keeps working exactly as it is, your licence stays valid, hosted sharing stays on with the same storage, and nothing you have already uploaded stops working. It is a one-time payment: there is no renewal, no reminder and no automatic charge. Nothing is promised here about the price or the terms of any update published after those 12 months.
Sharing is a hosting service, so it comes with the two rules any hosting service has:
A public share link is unlisted, not password-protected. Anyone holding the URL can watch it. A private share is served only through our own server and its link carries a secret, and a client folder restricts a video to the email addresses you invite. Neither turns a link into a vault: the access code of a folder arrives by email, so an invited person who forwards it lets somebody else in. Do not publish material where that would matter.
If you invite people to a client folder, you are responsible for the addresses you type: for having the right to use them, and for removing those that should no longer have access. Removing an invitation deletes the address from our side at once.
You can delete any share from your account at any time, which removes the video, its transcript and its comments. Deleting a folder removes its addresses and its access log, and releases the videos it held without deleting them.
If Silk ever stops operating, I will give at least 60 days' notice by email so you can download what you have published. The application itself keeps working without me: the licence key is verified offline.
Everything. The videos you export are yours, including commercially. That covers the music generated inside the app: it is produced by the app rather than licensed from a library, so there is no rights holder to credit and nothing to clear before you monetise a video.
Silk is provided as is. It is built with care and tested, but it is early software written by one person, and it may contain defects. It is not covered by any warranty of fitness for a particular purpose.
In practice: keep your source recordings until you are happy with the export. That is sound advice with any editing tool, and it is the only real precaution this software asks of you.
To the extent permitted by law, liability is limited to the amount you paid for the licence. Nothing here limits liability for gross negligence or for anything that cannot be excluded under French law.
If these terms change, the date at the top of this page changes with them. Continuing to use Silk after that means you accept the new version.
French law applies.
